Once upon a time there was a boy and a girl who lived with their kind father and wicked stepmother. The boy was called Hansel and the girl was called Gretel.

One day Hansel and Gretel’s stepmother thought of a plan.

She thought that the family was so poor that she should just lead the children into the deep dark part of the wood where they could not find their way home.

At bedtime Hansel and Gretel’s father kissed the children good night while the stepmother grinned.

But what the stepmother didn’t know was that Hansel heard the plan.

So Hansel got out of bed and collected some shiny stones.

The stepmother went to get the children and they went outside into the dark forest. Hansel dropped the stones and when the stepmother left the woods the children waited for a while then followed the stones.

The next day the wicked stepmother was so furious she called the woodcutter to send the children back into the wood and this time she was sure the children wouldn’t come back.

Hansel got some bread to drop on the ground to help them find their way home.

But when the children tried to get home by following the trail of bread that Hansel had dropped they found that the birds had eaten the bread.

Later on the children were feeling very hungry.

In the distance Gretel could just see a small cottage.

Now this cottage was not a normal cottage it was made out of sweets and treats! They ran to the house and started to eat the sweets.

The owner of this cottage had just come out of the house she seemed a nice little lady but really she was a horrible wicked witch!

The witch said, "Sit down my dears."

Suddenly she threw Gretel to the floor and made her scrub it.

Then she said to Hansel, "Get in the cage now!"

The witch shouted,

"I’m going to eat you up for dinner."

Every morning the witch kept feeling Hansel’s finger. But what the witch did not know was that when she told Hansel to put his finger out, he just put a chicken bone instead.

The witch was getting very tired of this. So she just said, "I’m going to eat you up tonight!"

Hansel was very scared so he shouted to Gretel, "Can you help the witch is going to eat me up in the morning?"

Morning came and the witch was getting the fire ready for Hansel. When the witch passed Gretel she hissed,

"Get in the fire and see if it is hot and ready for Hansel!"

Gretel shouted,

"NO NEVER!"

Gretel grinned and shoved the witch into the oven and that was the end of the witch but what about their father?

Hansel and Gretal ran straight home and gave their father a big hug.

There was some good news for the children. Their stepmother had gone forever.

They all lived happily ever after!
