The first of May, Vappu, is a carnival day in Finland.

Vappu is great fun.

Then students wear their white caps.

People go on picnics, and drink "sima",special mead made of lemons.

The Picnic

They eat "tippaleipä", which tastes like doughnut and looks like a bird nest or light brown crunchy spaghetti.

We buy balloons, serpentines and masks at the Vappu market

Huiskat

We also buy "huiska". It’s made of tissue paper and looks like this.

You must wear sunglasses. The sun shines so brightly.

You can dress up in fancy dresses and have fun.

We have a fancy dress party even at school.

Fancy Dress

You can also go to Linnanmäki amusement park. I go to Ullanlinnanmäki with my mum and sister. It’s a park where people have picnics and meet their friends. And then we eat in a restaurant.
