Prince Llewelyn was
going out on a hunt for the day. He looked everywhere for his dog, Gelert, but he failed to find him anywhere. |
| Gelert was wandering here and there, and once Llewelyn had left for the hunt, he made his way to the bedroom where the princes baby boy was fast asleep. |

|
Very quickly, Gelert settled down on
the floor and slept, but suddenly he heard a strange noise. He opened his eyes, and saw a large wolf standing there. |
| The wolf walked into the bedroom and
stood over the little baby. He crouched over the cot, and was ready to eat the little one. |

Gelert stood up and
growled fiercely at the wolf. There was a teriffic fight between the two, and the cot toppled over onto the floor. There was an awful mess in the room with curtains and clothes strewn everywhere. |
| The dog managed to get
the better of the wolf, and the wolf fell ... dead on the floor. Gelert heard the prince returning from the hunt and went to meet his master. Poor Gelert was covered in blood. |

Llewelyn marched into
the babys bedroom and got the shock of his life when he saw the mess. There was no sign of his baby boy, and he was convinced that Gelert had killed and eaten him. He took his sword out of its sheath and with one blow, killed his dog. |
| Seconds later, he heard
the cries of a baby coming from underneath the curtains. There he found his baby safe and well, and by his sons cot, he also discovered the body of the wolf. He realized that he had made an awful mistake. Gelert had fought with the wolf to save his babys life. |

Llewelyn didnt know what to do
with himself and was very sad. He ran outside shouting and screaming. He decided to build a very special grave for the dog in a quiet meadow, placing a large headstone on it to remember his faithful dog. |
